Where can I appeal my Cook County property tax assessment?

Cook County Assessor
Your first opportunity to appeal your property tax assessment would be when you recieve your new proposed assessed valuation for the property. This value is reassessed every three years by the Cook County Assessor's office, who then sends the property owner a reassessment notice. On that notice is a date by which you can file for an appeal with the Assessor's Office through their Taxpayer Assistance Office.

If you are not satisfied with the results of your appeal, you can contact the Assessor's Taxpayer Advocate Department, which will conduct individualized re-reviews when evidence indicates the possibility of error.

The Board has the authority to review the assessment and, upon finding that an assessment is not correct, order the Assessor to increase or decrease any assessment accordingly.
