April
30, 2008, the Office of the Public Administrator will
hold public auction to settle the estates for people
who die in Cook County intestate (without a will), or
where there is no person in Illinois with the right
or desire to administer the estate.

Approves 2008 Budget
Cook
County Board President Todd Stroger publicly announced
a budget agreement late Friday night that prevented
a possible government shut-down and will increase the
County’s revenue stream over the long term to
heal a chronic structural deficit.

Stroger
Hospital Wins Full Accreditation from Joint Commission
Cook
County Board President Todd H. Stroger was joined by
Bureau of Health Services leadership to announce Stroger
Hospital’s recent full accreditation by JCAHO
– the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations, which serves as the nation’s premier
accrediting body for U.S. hospitals and medical facilities.
The President also released the Health Bureau’s
2007 Progress Report, which identifies a range of significant
improvements in various areas throughout the bureau
that have enhanced the delivery of healthcare services.

Police,
Community Representatives Urge County Commissioners
to Adequately Fund Medical Examiner
Cook
County Board President, Todd H. Stroger, joined Cook
County Medical Examiner, Dr. Nancy Jones, local law
enforcement, religious leaders and medical examiner
investigators and staff to stress the need for the 2008
budget be passed without any proposed cuts that would
severely affect the facility. The group stressed how
drastically police investigations, funeral preparations
and organ donor practices would be adversely affected.

Forest Preserve District Picnic Permits Now Available
Picnic
permits for 2008 dates are now available through the
Forest Preserve District of Cook County for their 110
groves throughout the district. Permits can be obtained
in person or online.

Introduces Prescription Drug Discount Card Program
Cook
County, in partnership with Caremark and the National
Association of Counties (NACo), introduced a new Cook
County Prescription Drug Discount Card.
This free card is available to all county residents
and can provide significant savings on prescription
drugs with no income requirements, no age requirements,
and unlimited use for the whole family.

County's
Online Procurement System
The
Office of the Purchasing Agent's online enhancements
to their web site allow all contract bid and quotation
documents to be obtained online. The site also allows
interested vendors to register and be notified of new
postings on a regular basis.
