Ladies and Gentlemen:

 

        Your Committee on Construction of the Board of Commissioners of Cook County met pursuant to notice on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at the hour of 9:30 AM in the Board Room, Room 569, County Building, 118 North Clark Street, Chicago, Illinois.

 

        Your Committee has considered the following item and upon adoption of this report, the recommendations are as follows:

OFFICE OF CAPITAL PLANNING AND POLICY, by Bruce Washington, Director, transmitting a Communication:

 

Transmitted herewith for your approval is Change Order No. 1 to the contract with Dore and Associates Contracting, Inc., contractor for the Building Demolition at Stroger Hospital of Cook County campus, for a credit in the amount of ($1,211,232.00).  It is respectfully requested that this Honorable Body approve this request.

 

Reason:     This contract amendment is due to the coordination issues between the garage expansion and demolition projects.  It was determined to defer the removal of underground structures to the garage Contractor’s Scope of Work.  This deferral will eliminate the confusion of liability between Contractors.  Additionally, it will save the County money by not having to excavate the same site more than once.

Commissioner Beavers asked if there was MBE/WBE participation for the demolition.

 

Elizabeth Melas, Deputy Director, Office of Capital Planning and Policy of Cook County, stated that there was MBE/WBE participation.

 

Commissioner Beavers asked if Ms. Melas would provide him with the names of the companies.

 

Ms. Melas responded that she would forward him the information.

 

Commissioner Silvestri, seconded by Commissioner Gorman, moved approval of Communication No. 289808. The motion carried.

 

Vice Chairman Butler moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Commissioner Silvestri.  The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
