Your Committee on Legislation, Intergovernmental
and Veterans Relations of the Board of Commissioners of Cook County met
pursuant to notice on
Your Committee has considered the
following item and upon adoption of this report, the recommendations are as
follows:

STATUS OF PENDING LEGISLATION BEFORE THE ILLINOIS GENERAL
ASSEMBLY AND THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS THAT EFFECT THE SERVICES OF COOK
COUNTY (PROPOSED RESOLUTION).
Submitting a Proposed Resolution sponsored by Larry Suffredin, County
Commissioner PROPOSED RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Illinois General Assembly and
the United States Congress are currently considering numerous bills that
effect the services and operation of Cook County; and WHEREAS, the County’s government relations
staff and hired lobbyists are actively monitoring the legislation that
effects WHEREAS, the Cook County Board wishes to
be updated on the status of certain bills pending before the General Assembly
and the U.S. Congress so that it may take positions and communicate such
positions to the legislative bodies on the relevant proposed legislation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE
IT RESOLVED, that
the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby request that a meeting of
the Legislation, Intergovernmental & Veterans Relations Committee be
convened at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 to discuss the status of
pending legislation; and BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that
the President’s Office government relations staff and hired lobbyists
including Mr. Stephen Morrill and Mr. Richard Boykin of Barnes &
Thornburg, appear before the Committee meeting and be prepared to update the
Committee on legislation pending before the General Assembly and the U.S.
Congress that effects Cook County’s services and operations. *
Referred to the Legislation, Intergovernmental & Veterans Relations Committee on |
Commissioner Daley,
seconded by Vice Chairman Silvestri moved to approve Communication Number
293355.
Derek Blaida, Special Assistant to
the President for Intergovernmental Affairs, provided an informational review
of bills pending in the 2008 Illinois General Assembly that affect the County
(see Attachment #1).
Chairman Suffredin recessed the Committee to the call of the
Chair.
The meeting reconvened that afternoon following the
conclusion of the regularly scheduled County Board Meeting.
Chairman Suffredin asked the Secretary to the Board to call
upon the registered public speaker, in accordance with Cook County Code, Sec.
2-108(dd):

On the motion to
approve, a voice vote was taken and the motion carried.
Commissioner Daley,
seconded by Commissioner Schneider, moved to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried and the meeting was
adjourned.
