Your Committee on Roads and Bridges, having had under consideration the matters hereinafter mentioned, respectfully reports and recommends as follows:

 

Section 1

 

Your Committee has considered the following communications from Rupert F. Graham, Jr., P.E., Superintendent of Highways, recommending for approval change in plans and extra work in the construction of certain highway improvements.

HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT, by Rupert F. Graham, Jr., P.E., Superintendent of Highways, submitting recommendation for change in plans and extra work on Section:  05-A8521-03-FP.  Joseph J. Schwab Road, Algonquin Road to the Union Pacific Railroad in the City of Des Plaines in County Board District #17.  Adjustment of quantities and a new item.  $2,600.70 (Deduction).

Graham, Jr., P.E., Superintendent of Highways, submitting recommendation for change in plans and extra work on Section:  06-W7438-03-RP.  Mount Prospect Road, Touhy Avenue to Dempster Street in the Cities of Chicago and Des Plaines in County Board Districts #15 and 17.  Adjustment of quantities and new items.  $16,304.80 (Addition).

Graham, Jr., P.E., Superintendent of Highways, submitting recommendation for change in plans and extra work on Section:  06-B1429-02-RS.  Group 2-2006:  Lawrence Avenue, Central Park Avenue to Ashland Avenue; and Ozanam (Canfield Road), Devon Avenue to Northwest Highway in the City of Chicago and the Village of Park Ridge in County Board Districts #8, 9 and 12.  Additional sidewalk removal and replacement, updated ADA requirements.  $200,000.00 (Addition).

Graham, Jr., P.E., Superintendent of Highways, submitting recommendation for change in plans and extra work on Section:  01-W3016-02-FP.  88th/86th Avenue, 111th Street to 103rd Street in the Village of Palos Hills, unincorporated Cook County and the Forest Preserve District of Cook County in County Board District #17.  Adjustment of quantities and a new item.  $331,572.35 (Deduction).

 

Vice Chairman Gorman, seconded by Commissioner Murphy moved the Approval of the change in plans and extra work described in Communications Nos. 293644, 293645, 293646, 293647 and 293648. The motion carried.

Your Committee has considered the following Communication from Rupert F. Graham, Jr., P.E., Superintendent of Highways.

COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT, by Rupert F. Graham, Jr., P.E., Superintendent of Highways, submitting the Bureau of Construction's Progress Report for the month ending March 31, 2008.

 

Vice Chairman Gorman, seconded by Commissioner Murphy, moved to Receive and File Communication No. 293649. The motion carried unanimously.

 

Section 3

 

Your Committee has considered the bids submitted on the items hereinafter described in accordance with the specifications prepared by the County Superintendent of Highways.

 

Your Committee has considered the communications from the Superintendent of Highways, submitting recommendations on the award of contracts for said items, and recommends that the contracts be and upon the adoption of this Report, awarded as follows:

 

1)         Fullerton Avenue

            I.H.B. Railroad to DesPlaines River Road

            Section 07-B1922-02-RP

            Villages of Franklin Park and River Grove

            County Board Districts #9 & #16

            Motor Fuel Tax Account #600-600

 

            Contract awarded to:  Greco Contractors, Inc.  $4,798,648.73

 

2)         104th Avenue

            167th Street to 159th Street

            Section 06-W2509-05-FP

            Village of Orland Park and

            Unincorporated Cook County

            County Board District #17

            Motor Fuel Tax Account #600-600

 

            Contract awarded to:  D. Construction, Inc.  $8,559,665.53

 

3)         Plum Grove Road (Old)

            Algonquin Road to Meacham Road

            Section 02-V6542-03-PV

            Village of Schaumburg, City of Rolling

            Meadows and Unincorporated Cook County

            County Board District #14

            Motor Fuel Tax Account #600-600

 

            Contract awarded to:  A. lamp Concrete Contractors, Inc.  $5,145,966.45

 

The deposit checks are ordered returned to the unsuccessful bidders at once and to the successful bidders upon the signing of the contracts.

 

Vice Chairman Gorman, seconded by Commissioner Murphy, moved to concur with the recommendation in awarding the contracts.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

 

Commissioner Daley, seconded by Commissioner Beavers, moved to adjourn.   The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
